I just sat in the hall talking with Dad about things. We discussed all sorts of topics, from the Olympics to spelling, finances, government, video games, HDTV and of course, food. He's tired and his full head of hair is disheveled like he just woke up, but all things considered, he's doing well.
Have you ever watched a person walk? I just did. The nurse, or the aide, was walking toward us in the long hallway just outside Mom's room. She wore long Brown pants but had white shoes. They stood out on the dark blue carpeted floor. Each time she stepped closer her feet overlapped the center line. I thought about the proper way to walk. Is it a straight line? If I snapped a 50 foot chalk line and walked it, would I step over the line? I bet I would. She definitely did. Her feet went a good 4 inches inside the line with each step. The cliche' of 2 old retired people sitting on their front porch watching the world go by fills my head. Only it's me and Dad in our rocking chairs manufactured in China. The cushions aren't soft and plush, they're covered in vinyl or some other type of material that's easy to clean. I'd imagine there are plenty of spills that happen on these chairs. Still, they're comfortable. The aide passes. Her white shoes turn out to be crocks or some form of light nursing shoes. Dad yawns. The nurse yawns and tells a story about her yawning is only because he yawned. They laugh.
Mom's still sleeping. Dad's tired. He's going to leave with Emma and I. He'll be back later.

Rick, I've finally figured out how to post a comment here! Yay! I want to let your mom know that I just finished 8 hrs of a workshop on breathing--learning how to breathe correctly. The bottom line is: You don't eat with your nose so don't breathe with your mouth. Please have your mom call me sometime so I can tell her more about "The Buteyko Correct Breathing" workshop.
Rick, Jim and all the rest of the clan, greetings from the sunny Oregon coast. Thank you for updating the blog. I really look forward to knowing what's going on with Maryann. As I look out and watch the waves crashing in excitement to reach the shore, I think how much Maryann would enjoy this location. Everything is so tranquil. I've taken some pictures and will send them to Jim so he can share them with Maryann. I love you all and send this peace to you, Michele
