Emma wants to go fishing. She talks with Grandpa about their pond and if it is frozen. Grandpa says he wouldn't want to walk on it -- that he might fall in. They also talk about Emma's hockey game. The Sting lost 9-3 to the Bruins, a skilled team. Emma is the goalie and got shelled in the game pretty good. Despite that, she played well and has a big smile on her face.
Mom's just asked, "Who won the Olympics?" Never short on sports knowledge, Grandpa tells Mom all about the medal counts.
Mom opens a dark chocolate Dove bar, holds it up and says, "Look, it's dancing. Hula, Hula, Hula." She has these funny moments and we laugh. Laughing is important.
Grandpa and Emma sit and talk about chemical reactions. Emma keeps looking at me as I type. She thinks it's cool I can type without looking at the keys. I catch her at home sometimes trying to do the same thing. Her words don't always come out right but she enjoys it. "I can do it, I'll show you she says." We'll see another time.
Mom's finished her candy bar. She looks at Dad and gives him the violin signing gesture as he talks about not getting his paper on time this morning. More laughter. "Well, I want my paper!"
Mom's hula dancing in her bed. Nurses pop in at different times for different reasons. Some come for dishes and others to give medicine. Mom holds each person's hand before they leave and says, "I love you." They smile and say the same, "I love you too!"
"When will my hair turn red?" Mom asks Emma. "It's a little red," Emma says. "You can always die it red." Mom likes the idea and says she wants red hair. "Bright, like my pillow!"
• Dad memorized 3 piano songs when he was 12 or 13. When he plays the piano, he plays the same three songs over and over. Quite well, but the same over and over. As kids, we figured Dad was a really good piano player. We never realized he just knew three songs. We've been duped!
