Mom's sleeping - talk with Dr. Renee

I left the hospital tonight at 1:00 a.m. Mom had just gotten an air-filled bed to help her with being comfortable. She had just taken some pain medicine and was feeling very good. The new bed had a small hum to it, as it filled the portions of the bed with air that she needed. "Big improvement," mom said.

On the way out of the hospital, Dr. Renee (first name, I hope I spelled it right) asked how she was doing. We talked about the lung drainage from yesterday and why the right wasn't done today. She said she expected it to be done and wasn't sure why it wasn't but that she and the two pulminary doctors would be in in the morning to talk with Mom. She said that Mom's blood levels weren't bad so the draining could take place down the road -- maybe even tomorrow. I think Mom would like that. Correction, I know she would.

Renee said that the left lung didn't collapse much at all, a fraction is all and that it would probably re-expand back to normal. That was great news, I thought. I asked if the right lung was any more susceptible to collapse and she said she didn't see any reason why it would. But she said the other doctors would be the ones to make the decision. It sounded like there was more than one doctor consulting the XRays. That was comforting news.

I made sure the nurse, Lisa, would keep Mom comfortable tonight. Mom looked very comfortable when I left.

I look forward to seeing her tomorrow and hope she gets a great night sleep. I'm hopeful they'll drain her right lung so she doesn't have to worry about it and can breath better.
