A perfect day

Happy Saturday Mom fans. Today's my wife's birthday (all along now... Happy Birthday Andi!) I mention that because Mom knew it was Andrea's birthday and wanted to have a party at her place. So, we did! Jules ordered a giant sub from Subway and we brought chips, cupcakes, ice cream and assorted sides. The whole fam damily was there to celebrate. It was fun.

The highlight though was meeting mom's dear friend Brenda, from Hawaii. She brought a piece of the island with her -- sand, shells, flowers, coconut, songs and the most awesome hula dancing. She grabbed the grandaughters and taught them how to hula. Imagine a small room with 12 people crammed in it, 80+ degrees (the nursing home keeps it really warm), balloons and Mom in her bed smiling at all the sights and sounds.

The first dance Brenda performed was very touching. Mom moved from side to side in her bed, smiling and holding out her hands, dancing from her bed. Dad sat in the rocker and cried. Jen held his hand. I took pictures. I'll post a sequence of the dance as an animated file tomorrow, so all of you can get a feel for the movement. They hugged at the end. If it were a Hollywood movie, it would be the feelgood moment of the film! Mom was in great spirits. We ate cupcakes and laughed about which of the kids was the biggest challenge growing up. "Rick was so easy," Mom said. Jen rolled her eyes. I laughed.
