Crossword puzzles

Mom says she wants a book of crossword puzzles. Dad sits by her side, completing his puzzles, but only asks for assistance from Mom when he gets to the bottom questions. "They are the hard ones," he says. Mom's new condition has her wanting more of the "sweet stuff" like the easy crossword questions, rather than just the ones on the bottom.

Her mind rambles in a million directions. We soak up every insight, but do encourage her to rest.

We've read the comments from previous posts to her. She very much appreciates all the positive energy and prayer she's receiving. My wife, Andi (a kick-ass nurse), spent a majority of the day with Mom yesterday. She was a "godsend, very tender and caring," said Mom. So did sis Jen. They did the wig thing and just made Mom feel good -- which is our job these days.

Dad looks great today. He's wearing a maroon button up shirt and a matching sweater vest. Business casual/church attire -- though Dad still wears a tie to church. Mom's had many visitors throughout the day. She welcomes each and wants to know their stories. Her engaging questions are tough to avoid for the quiet, leave-me-alone types. Mom's questions are like the tentacles of an octopus, only they're there to embrace not harm.

She's eating lunch. Salad. "Nope, I'm not going to complain," she stops herself. Dad prepares some special bread.
