OMG! Can it be?

Mom's friend Sherry brought some new games for mom and the kids to play. I almost flipped when I saw one of them, MILLE BORNES, a totally-awesome (80's valley girl reference) card game I used to play over and over and over as a kid. Wow. I can't wait to read the directions and start playing again. Cool stuff.

Sherry is from Sheffield Lake, the city in Cleveland we moved from 35 years ago. She knew many of the same kids we used to play with and naturally knew all the streets in the area. Mom liked reminiscing about the old stomping ground.

I remembered a blue house and a choppy front lawn. That's it. Oh, and cranking my chin on the pavement from a broken sidewalk. I was on one of those plastic dinosaurs with the little plastic wheels (probably wasn't made in China but would be today) and the wheels got stuck. I was cruising at a good clip since even then (4) I had superior athletic skills. I'm sure I was high-tailing it to avoid being chased by girls that wanted to give me a kiss (at 4 that's a big yuck!) and would have been home free had it not been for that darn sidewalk. The impact was life-altering. I screamed into the house and bled all over the kitchen. 12-stitches later I was back in the hood, running from girls. Never rode that darn dino again, though.

That's the extent of my memories of Sheffield Lake.

I am from Sheffield lake as well. I left for college in 1968, and never moved back. I was maryann's student during Jim and maryann's courtship days! I also babysat a few times for the little Tituses, all grown-up now1.
This blog is great. I appreciate the effort it takes to keep it updated.
I hope to make it to Colmbus soon and will check if it's convenient to stop by. Jan Kennedy Franklin
