Popularity rules

For a retired school teacher bound to her hospital bed, Mom sure has busy days. "Some more than others," she says. "But I love the social interaction."

The occupational therapist was here this morning, working with Mom on getting mobility back out of her left arm. She wants mom to begin sewing again, using small repetitive motion on the sewing machine. I have no idea what that means, since I've never sewn a stitch in my life, but I'll sure support her in her small circle stitching.

Valerie, Mom's OT, was leaving as a member of church was arriving to share communion with Mom. Her stay was brief but very much enjoyed by Mom. She loves her communion!

Mom felt so good after communion she sat in the sun for 15 minutes. She rolled her pant legs up so she could get some sun on her legs. We walked about allergies, sleeping, bamboo sheets, laundry, scrabble, teaching and how dad got pasted 109 to 10 in Mom and Dad's last game of penuchle. (I really should spell check that word so I get it right from now on)

Mom's left ear began to get clogged so we went back inside. "I can't have that ear block or I won't be able to hear anything," Mom says. Her right ear is blocked for some reason. Sometimes I have to shout to get her to hear me. We laugh about how getting old sucks.

We're in the middle of cards when a member of Home Reach arrives to change out Mom's oxygen tubes. We all get a crash course on how to work the machine, etc.

Mom's nurse arrives. Bloodwork and vital checks. Now time for lunch. Georgia will be arriving at 2:00pm to bring dinner and visit with Mom.

I hope I'M this popular when I get old!
