Be gone pesky clot!

I was with Mom nearly the entire day yesterday. She looked good when I arrived in the morning but she complained of the fluid that had built up in her left arm. The surface of the arm had changed and Mom was anxious. She called in her nurses -- she knows them all by name and knows all their stories -- and they agreed the arm looked like it had changed since the previous evening.

A doplar was ordered to rule out another clot. (The running joke is Mom will get to forecast the weather, doplar radar, get it?)

She had run a low-grade fever the night before. She didn't sleep very well.

Todays visitors came and went. More communion, lots of hugs and even some new art for mom's gallery (room). "We should tell people to bring art when they come to see me," Mom said. A visitor brought mom a very nice watercolor painting. She placed it above her TV cabinet, right next to her ipod speaker system.

Ron, the first registered mobile doplar tech in Central Ohio, arrived about 4:30pm. He's tall and thin, wearing a white shirt and olive dress pants. Looks like he'd be a good golfer. Mom quickly introduced herself, asked Ron a series of questions and before you know it, he was demonstrating and teaching mom all about the imaging technology. We could tell he was passionate about what he does and likes to talk about it. They talked to each other the entire 45 minutes Ron was in the room. He told her all about his professional past and helped Mom understand more about the lymph system. He gave her several very good suggestions on ways to keep the swelling down, but most importantly, discovered the previous clot in her arm had a "nice clear center."

Blood flow looked good and there was no evidence of any additional clots. We all smiled.

Mom's dinner arrived. Mac and cheese with steamed brocolli. "Want to stay for dinner?" Mom asked both Dad and I. "Um, not really," we both said. I was craving steak. Dad, probably pizza.
